Hope you had a chance to soak up the holiday weekend — whether you caught the fireworks, spotted the Tall Ships, or simply enjoyed some time outside. Now it's time to look ahead, and this week's lineup is full of free events, live music, fitness classes, and local happenings all across Astoria.

Local Gossip:

  • Staples is closing. The Steinway location is in its final days, with many items now 50% off.
  • Athena Market has closed on 31st St & 23rd Rd. Rumor has it Under Pressure may be expanding into the space.
  • Steinway Street was packed Saturday night as fans celebrated Egypt's World Cup victory.
  • Astoria Park Pool has already had two "Code Brown" closures this season. Summer is officially here.
  • Nova Cafe & Juice Bar officially opens Saturday, July 11 at 8am with freebies, a raffle, and music.

Lap Swim

Take part in a long-distance lap swim competition. To participate in the competition, please speak to an Aquatics Specialist on the pool deck and indicate this on your application. An awards ceremony will be held at the end of August to celebrate the health and fitness achievements of swimmers who complete 15 miles or more. World Cup U.S. Soccer Watch Party: USMNT vs. Belgium

Waterfront Concert Series: BonJourney

Join us for concerts on the waterfront! Taking place on the Great Lawn at Astoria Park, a performance by Bonjourney. A tribute band to Bon Jovi and Journey, the genre is rock music.

The Astoria Video Game Music Jam

Astoria's thriving video game music jazz scene returns to soundtrack OpenStreets again! Join us as we play live jazz renditions of music from your favorite games, cartoons, animes, and other media! Pick up an instrument and join in or request a tune or just hang out. A guitar, bass, keyboard, microphone, and drumkit will be available for anyone who wants to use them, as well as music stands and lead sheet repositories. To be played at a reasonable volume!

Zumba with Kelley
