Good morning, Astoria!
The Astoria Park Pool is officially closed for the season, so pour one out for summer pool days. But don’t worry — there’s still plenty happening around town.
The first-ever Astoria Brasil Fest on 31st Ave Open Street was a success, bringing Brazilian music, food, culture and community to the neighborhood!
And there’s more on the way: This week, you can also catch the Astoria Gay Book Club, Taylor Swift karaoke, Tarot Talk, the 31st Ave Open Street, a new local business grand opening and plenty more.
Local Gossip:
- Outdoor Cinema is back at Socrates Park! After more than two decades, the summer movie series is returning for two special nights. September 12 brings BOUCHRA with a DJ set and Moroccan food; September 26 features Jean-Michel Basquiat with an ambient set and Haitian food. Basically, Socrates is giving us movie night, but make it a whole cultural experience.
- Pickleball season is back. Astoria Sports’ fall league starts September 16 at Bohemian Beer Garden. Sign up by Sept. 9 before it fills up.
- Looking for a job? A free career fair is coming to The Chocolate Factory Theater on Sept. 9, 10am – 3pm, with local employers on hand.
- ICYMI - Q101 news: Automated cameras are now watching for traffic violations at bus stops. Steinway doesn’t have a bus lane, so don’t block the stops!
- Regal is showing Star Trek classics Sept. 4–7, followed by an all-day movie and episode marathon on Star Trek Day, Sept. 8.
Cheers,
Angelina & Stacey
