Hello Astoria!
Summer is officially here! The annual fireworks show is on Thursday, Astoria Pool is reopening this weekend, and it's also Election Day tomorrow — so don't forget to make a plan to vote if you haven't already. Once you've done your civic duty, we've got plenty of neighborhood events to help you make the most of the week!

Local Gossip:
- Election Day is this Tuesday, June 23! Check out our voting guide (but be sure to do your own research) and head to the polls!
- Astoria Pool officially opens for the season on Saturday, June 27!
- Missing a bird? Someone found a feathered friend in the neighborhood.
- Fresco's Grand Cantina on 31st Street will sadly close its doors on Sunday, July 5. The 31st Avenue location will remain open.
- There is a free sourdough bread tasting on Tuesday, June 23, from 3:30–7:30pm in front of Sac's Place. Stop by to sample fresh breads, focaccia, and ciabatta.
- Ever wanted to try longsword fencing? A beginner-friendly group is forming for a class on Sunday, June 28, at Unlimited Body near Ditmars. No experience or equipment required!
- Keep an eye out around Astoria Park next week—"Dexter" is reportedly filming near Astoria Boulevard and Marquee Astoria around June 29.
- A colorful new mural has appeared beneath the Ditmars station, and neighbors say it may have been painted by students from Frank Sinatra School of the Arts.
- This month marks the 25th anniversary of Astoria's Father's Day Fire, which claimed the lives of three FDNY firefighters just months before 9/11. Some photos from the event can be found here.

Hassan is a NYC-based drag singer/songwriter. As a native New Yorker, Hassan has always had a passion for bringing the community together with their performances and advocacy. Their EP- After the Flowers, available on all streaming platforms, highlights their journey into queerness and was turned into a documentary.
They have also been featured in Bright Vignettes, a documentary highlighting the first ever Astoria Pride.
